HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Redshirt senior Kendra King tallied her first double-double of the season, scoring a career-high 17 points while grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds, but it was not enough as the University of Memphis grabbed a 57-50 win over Marshall.

King was the lone double-digit scorer for Marshall (12-8, 4-3 C-USA) and had the leading tally in the game. Mystee Dale scored eight points while hauling in seven rebounds.

Memphis (12-7, 5-1 C-USA) sprinted out to an early 5-1 lead before Marshall came back to tie it up at 5-5 with 15:26 remaining in the first half. A nip-and-tuck affair ensued at that point as the lead teeter-tottered five times in the first stanza before the Herd would establish a five-point lead, 26-21, with just under three minute left in the half.

The Tigers scored the final five points of the period to tie the score at 26-26 at the half. In the final minute, Alex Winchell nailed her second three-pointer of the game with the shot clock running out to tie the score. King led all scorers with nine points in the half.

A 3-0 spurt to begin the second half put Memphis back on top before Marshall responded with four-straight, all coming from King.

Up 37-35, the Tigers scored the next four to go up 41-35, their largest lead of the contest to that point. Over the next six minutes, the Herd scored the next nine points en route to a 44-41 lead. Consecutive buckets by Chantelle Handy got the Herd back on top, 42-41, before Veronica Ruiz hit a jumper to put Marshall up by three.

That momentum was short-lived, however, as the Tigers came right back with a 6-0 run of their own. A trey by Brittany Carter sealed the run, which put Memphis up 47-42 with five minutes remaining. The Tigers held on from there, hitting key free throws down the stretch to escape with the seven-point victory.

Brittany Carter led Memphis with 16 points while Alex Winchell had 12, all coming via the three-point shot. Memphis took the win despite being on the losing end of the rebounding battle, 47-36.

Neither team shot the ball particularly well as the Tigers shot .392 while holding the Herd to a .356 shooting percentage.

Today marked the first win over Marshall for the Tigers, who were previously 0-10 against the Herd.

On Saturday, Marshall will take on UAB at 7 p.m. at the Cam Henderson Center. UAB began Thursday evening in a three-way tie for first in the conference with Memphis and SMU.
