Kentucky landed the first tournament title of the 2010 season for a C-USA squad as the Wildcats topped IUPUI by a 1-0 decision to claim the UKIT title. UAB took a 3-1 victory over Virginia Tech at the Virginia Classic as senior Anthony King scored twice for the Blazers.
Conference USA women's soccer teams combined for 15 wins over the weekend. Tulsa moved into the top of the C-USA standings as the first team to reach five wins on the young season. No. 15 Memphis and SMU posted big shutouts, while Marshall blanked visiting Appalachian State to win the Best Western Huntington Mall Invitational. Rice handed San Francisco its first loss of the season, as the Owls came from behind to earn a 2-1 victory in overtime. UCF won its third-straight match with a 4-1 decision over VCU, while UTEP was also dominant in a 5-1 victory against Houston Baptist.
The Ruffin McNeill era at East Carolina began with a thrilling 51-49 victory over Tulsa. In a wild game that featured 11 lead changes, the Pirates won the game on the final play, a 33-yard hail mary pass from Dominique Davis to Justin Jones. SMU battled back from a 21-point deficit, but fell at Texas Tech, 35-27.
Tulsa and SMU each garnered wins on Saturday at the SMU Invitational-PREGO to move C-USA to a 9-2-1 overall record on the season. Tulsa junior Austin Neil recorded the season's first hat trick to lead the Golden Hurricane to a 3-1 win over Tulsa. SMU followed with another 3-1 win over Lipscomb to move the Mustangs to 2-0 start.
Jonathan Davis ran for 107 yards and a touchdown, while A.J. Guyton had a career-high 127 receiving yards and a TD to lead UCF to a 38-7 victory in Orlando. Rice gave No. 4 Texas a battle at Reliant stadium, eventually falling 34-17.
Conference USA added four more wins to the men's soccer season Friday night as South Carolina, Marshall, Kentucky and FIU each emerged victorious in season openers. In the Fox Sports Channel NSCAA College Game of the Week, South Carolina took a 2-0 win over Clemson, the fourth-straight victory over the rival for the Gamecocks. Marshall earned its first win of the season, defeating Oakland by a 1-0 margin. Kentucky started its season with a 1-0 win over Eastern Illinois, while FIU topped Illinois-Chicago, 1-0, in a double-overtime match.
